Cannabis for Medical Use in Colorado

The state of Colorado has a comprehensive medical marijuana program that allows for the use of marijuana for a wide range of medical conditions. The program was established in 2000 with the passage of Amendment 20, also known as the Colorado Medical Marijuana Amendment.

Under Amendment 20, qualified patients are allowed to possess and use marijuana for medical purposes with the recommendation of a licensed physician. Patients must also obtain a medical marijuana card from the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment (CDPHE).

To qualify for the medical marijuana program in Colorado, patients must be diagnosed with one of the qualifying medical conditions. Patients must also be a resident of Colorado and be at least 18 years old. Minors may qualify for the program with the approval of two licensed physicians and the consent of a parent or guardian.
